A letter to an old friend.

We never listen to the radio on the way to preschool.  We usually talk about the day ahead or listen to a story. But today we turned on the radio and The Fugees, Killing Me Softly was playing.  Normally I tune to kids music but today I heard the song and I sang along while Declan giggled at me.  It made for a fun drive to work.  Only when I looked at the calendar at the office today did I realize that you sent me that song today.

We were 15.  I didn’t listen to “good” music according to you. You bought me this album and played it for me always.  It was the start of something exciting.  It was the start of a great love that I would always cherish.

Declan frequently tells me things that make me feel like you are always around.  He hears music when it’s quiet.  “Someone is singing to me” he says.

It’s been 13 years since I’ve seen your face and still you are giving me gifts.

I miss you.
You’re memory always brings a smile
